Good parenting always seem to surround rationalizing with kids rather than having to reprimand/mete out punishment. But how if kids refuse being rationalized to like my Type A elder daughter? Below are some quick solutions:
1. Ask her to think for herself –
Builds life skill of thinking independently but if kid refuses to do so,
2. Offer an alternative –
People like to be given options and that includes kids. One option is listening to what mom has to say. ๐
3. Then give a hug –
Always works!

Surprisingly, it works the other way with younger kids (like preschoolers) – ie to hug first, reason and provide some options (usually 2 suffice, no need to wreck our brains too much ๐ ), then finally get them to think for themselves when they are done with the outburst.
Wierd, isn’t it? ๐
